Over time, cutlery can tarnish, stop sparkling and even begin to rust. This is why it’s so important to take appropriate care of your silverware and avoid losing the original charm. But, if you take care of your silver, you will enjoy many years of them shining like new. Here at Gainsborough, we have put together a guide that will advise you on how to clean your silverware to ensure they are maintained and kept looking like new.
Here are our top tips…
Wash cutlery immediately after use. If you leave your silverware with food on it for a lengthy amount of time, it can lead to marks and stains.
Do not use abrasive polishes. Natural cleaning solutions such as vinegar, cider, lemon juice, olive oil and soda water all work wonderfully on removing stains from stainless steel and silver.
Dry your cutlery, otherwise, the open air will cause unwanted natural drying marks.
Use a microfiber cloth. The tiny strands help naturally buff and polish the silver, removing any fingermarks and stains.
Keep your silver cutlery in a cabinet or a cutlery roll. To protect your cutlery store your silver in cotton bags, wraps or a fabric cutlery holders.
Hand Washing Cutlery
Never use chemicals or abrasives solutions to clean your silver. Stick to domestic washing up liquid with warm water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Dishwashing Cutlery
Keep the knives, forks and spoons separate from each other in the machine. Remember not to use the rinse and hold cycle and to remove the silverware after the cleaning cycle so that you can dry them by hand with a soft cloth.
We hope you found our tips useful and that it keeps your silverware shining for many years to come!
